Nel 1727, quando divenne cittadino britannico naturalizzato, Händel ricevette l’incarico di scrivere una serie di inni per l’incoronazione di Giorgio II. Poiché difficilmente avrebbe avuto un’occasione altrettanto maestosa, ne approfittò per mettere in scena un fuoco d’artificio musicale di splendore senza precedenti. La RIAS Kammerchor e l’Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin danno un’emozionante interpretazione di queste opere sfavillanti, alcune delle quali sono usate ancora oggi a ogni nuova incoronazione.
