DESCRIZIONE
Benjamin Appl ha incontrato il compositore ungherese György Kurtág nel 2019 e da allora ha lavorato costantemente con lui. «Mi ha plasmato come musicista e come essere umano, forse più di chiunque altro» racconta Appl. Questo album alterna lieder di Schubert e Brahms a brani vocali di Kurtág, cinque dei quali in prima registrazione assoluta.
Kurtág stesso accompagna al pianoforte due lieder di Schubert e Brahms, mentre Pierre-Laurent Aimard e James Baillieu—collaboratori di lunga data del baritono tedesco—interpretano gli altri brani sotto la direzione artistica di Kurtág.
L’album si conclude con un’affascinante intervista con “Gyuri bácsi” (zio George), in cui Appl offre uno sguardo intimo sull’universo di Kurtág, descritto come «un procrastinatore timido, un severo autocritico, un ricercatore esitante, un interrogatore introspettivo, un intellettuale schivo, un compositore geniale e un essere umano straordinario».
