The Time of Our Singing, la quarta opera di Kris Defoort, dopo The Woman Who Walked into Doors (2001), House of the Sleeping Beauties (2009) e Daral Shaga (2014), rappresenta il culmine e la conclusione di vent’anni di composizione operistica. Il romanzo di Richard Powers contiene temi che sono sempre stati importanti per il compositore e gli ha dato l’opportunità di esplorare la storia della musica occidentale e del jazz. È affascinante vedere come i personaggi toccanti di Powers abbiano trovato la loro incarnazione musicale e scenica in quest’opera.
