DESCRIZIONE

Forte dell’immenso successo che avevano conosciuto Dido & Aeneas e King Arthur, Purcell portò in scena nel 1692 il famoso Sogno di una notte d’estate di Shakespeare con il nuovo titolo di The Fairy Queen (La regina delle fate). Si tratta di una semiopera con dialogo in cinque atti nella quale la musica interviene solo in occasione di scene particolari. Ma è così che questo “sogno” rivisitato divenne famoso: scene d’amore, scene soprannaturali e un innato senso dell’umorismo musicale conferiscono a questo gustoso intreccio teatrale un fascino irresistibile.
