DESCRIZIONE
Sebbene l’oratorio Israel in Egypt sia stato eseguito per la prima volta il 4 aprile 1739 nella sua versione tripartita, è probabile che Händel lo avesse inizialmente composto senza un testo completo.
Hervé Niquet ha scelto di registrare la versione in due parti che, partendo da Berlioz, per tutto l’Ottocento considerarono definitiva: l’Esodo e il Canto di Mosè.
Registrato subito dopo la pandemia di Covid, questo disco riflette anche la gioia dei cantanti e strumentisti de Le Concert Spirituel nel tornare a fare musica insieme. Come afferma Niquet, il coro finale è un grido di felicità all’unisono, e in queste pagine si percepisce «un dramma quasi tangibile: i due cori si fronteggiano ai lati dell’orchestra, rispondendosi con violente ritorsioni e monumentali unisoni. Il loro intrecciarsi in movimenti diabolici è come una messa in scena teatrale che si schiude ai nostri occhi».
