Hervé Niquet da oltre quarant’anni si dedica alla musica di Händel ed è stata per lui una sorpresa, anzi, una “divina sorpresa”, la registrazione del Dettingen Te Deum e dei Coronation Anthems. Una nuova lezione di forza e gioia che ci permette di scoprire la scintillante potenza di questa musica cerimoniale inventata da un Händel consapevole di mettere il meglio del suo genio al servizio della Corona e della Storia’, e lui a sua volta investe tutto il suo entusiasmo ed espressività in queste opere che combinano grazia e forza.
Da amante di grandi formazioni orchestrali, Niquet ha riunito un numero di musicisti e di voci molto vicino a quello (gigantesco) usato per la prima rappresentazione, con una grande banda di oboi, fagotti e trombe e ha assegnato le arie solistiche all’intera cappella.
Gli appassionati di calcio che seguono la Champions League riconosceranno in “Zadok the Priest” il tema dell’inno della competizione.
