DESCRIZIONE
Nessun nobile in Inghilterra e solo pochissimi in Europa vissero una vita splendida, magnifica, grandiosa come quella del duca di Chandos. A Cannons, a nord di Londra, la residenza di James Brydges (1674-1744), ospitò Händel dal 1717 al 1719 il quale scrisse undici inni per soli, coro e orchestra, destinati ai servizi religiosi della corte. Una collezione preziosa e un banco di prova per i futuri grandi oratori del maestro, gli inni “Chandos” fondono i generi come le cantate italiane e le sonate di ispirazione corelliana con arie e cori nella pura tradizione inglese di Purcell. Troppo poco conosciute, queste opere preziose sono qui dirette con brio da Gaétan Jarry che ne sottolinea virtuosismo, ariosità e colori così generosamente impressi dal genio di Händel.
