Per la prima volta la Irish Baroque Orchestra e il suo direttore artistico Peter Whelan hanno registrato quello che può essere considerato il capolavoro simbolo dell’ensemble: il Messiah di Handel, appuntamento fisso e protagonista di tournée annuali. È sorprendente che si tratti della prima registrazione su strumenti storici da parte di un ensemble irlandese, considerando che l’opera, pilastro del repertorio oratoriale, fu presentata in prima assoluta a Dublino nel 1742. Quell’anno un Handel in difficoltà vi si recò per risollevare le proprie fortune. Dopo la prima con settecento spettatori, Handel lasciò Dublino considerevolmente più ricco. La Irish Baroque Choir restituisce l’atmosfera straordinaria di allora, risalendo alle origini di questo capolavoro.
